What does it profit me now
to know that you still love me?
Like someone still holding a ticket
to last season’s Broadway hit
I flip open the souvenir program.
The cast is unfamiliar.
Even yours is a stage name;
not the one I knew.

What does it profit me now
to know that you still love me?
Like having my number drawn
at a charity benefit raffle;
but the contest rules are clear:
“Contestants must be present to win.”
So, all the valuable prizes
have gone to someone else.
