Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 03/10/2008 "Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence"

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/27/2008 The rest of this week we're (allegedly) having temps in the low 50s with plenty of sunshine .

Time will tell - but it IS gorgeous outside right now --- and we're all inside sick with some sort of nasty flu-cold .

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/25/2008 I feel for you Garnet. It was 87F here today. I sure hope that you weren't suffering from the cold like I was.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/24/2008 I'm reportiing antryg to the authorities for blatant semicolon abuse.

"Antiphanes said merrily that in a certain city the cold was so intense that words were congealed as soon as spoken, but that after some time they thawed and became audible; so that the words spoken in winter were articulated next summer." -- Plutarch

That quote was on the front of a literary catalog I just got; which work of Plutarch's it was lifted from, I know not.... but it immediately reminded me of you, Garnet, and all your chilly-climed compatriots up there. Down here, we usually get some form of winter, probably what you'd consider a wimpy version of yours. This year, however, it has been strangely warm. Last year, too.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/20/2008 Hmmmm, there doesn't seem to be a facility to shorten or substitute text for urls. Without Helene, I have no idea how to enable such a function (I dunno how to do all that super-uber stuff on this site since I didn't build it nor do I maintain it).

Could I get a warm-up on my chococoffee, please? It was supposed to be warmish today but the wind has a bitter cold edge and the next few days claim to hold all manners of wet, cold and generally unfriendly-to-any-but-polar-bears type of weather.

Well, I suppose we should be gladdened semicolon usage was attempted. More often that not, a comma is inserted or no punctuation whatsoever results. Ask the Bard - he's becoming infamous here for his errant commas .

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/18/2008 Mmm... a bit o' chococoffee sounds lovely... make it two if you don't mind, and can you talk with the herds of ghosts that are hogging all the tables?

Let's see if I can do this right. Link here > http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/18/nyregion/18semicolon.html?em&ex=1203483600&en=5618a854dadaa001&ei=5087%0A to a fun article about a minor hullabaloo over -- gasp! -- the correct use of a semicolon on public signage in the NYC subway.

I loved all the quotes by grammatical & linguistic experts. Sort of silly. And Noam Chomsky never changes.

Also loved Kurt Vonnegut's old quip about semicolons in general.

edit: well, the link works, but it doesn't look pretty... was there some way to embed the URL that I couldn't figure out?

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/17/2008 Please pour me a cup of java with extra chocolate. It's raining and glum here -- but I guess that's better than the ice and snow that's supposed to cover over it later today.......

The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 02/16/2008 After a whole year in service, it's time for a new Coffee Shop thread. You might be wondering why I would open up a shop in a ghost town on a ghost planet on the ghostly web. The answer is simple and two-fold. I like ghosts but don't like people. This place is full of win.

ahhhhh coffee!
