Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 09/11/2006I can spend hours and hours reading Harry Potter. I really would like to write great stories like that in the future. Wizardry and magical fantasy are my favourites since I was a small kid.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 08/25/2006I normally read a lot of suspense novels. I also like to read horror novels that have a suspenseful story line. If it's just all about gore and slaughtering than it's not for me. I like the ones that have a lot of suspense leading up to all the scary stuff.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 08/21/2006Have you read "Paradox", "Context" and "Resolution" by John Meaney?
The first book (it's a trilogy) sent my poor brain a whirlin' with all its yammering about high math/science. Fortunately, I found that by the second book, my grey matter had made out some sort of sense and could begin to understand the very complex concepts that accompanied the story. By the third book, it was a breeze!
Good trilogy, even if I much prefer the fantasy genre.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 08/20/2006At the present, most of my reading is pleasure reading, a way to unwind after work. I'll read fantasy or science fiction. Petunia, I like the hard science type of sci-fi. I've got to admit that it has made learning a lot of math much easier for me. It inspires me to learn something from which I normally shy away.
I like biography and history as well. I just finished rereading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee for the first time in 20 years. If I'm feeling really risque I'll bring out some old philosophy books like John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 08/20/2006As far as fiction goes... I like fiction that could very well be true. Mario Puzo's mafia books are probably my favourite. I loved The Last Don and of course The Godfather. I also enjoy the odd law book. I wish I could get into those fantasy novels and lose myself, but I just can't seem to do it. I'm a very logical guy... I'm a realist I guess.
I also love non-fiction. I enjoy biographies and books written on various exciting and important times in history. Business and financial books are also up there for me.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 08/18/2006I love to read things along the line of "The Lord of the Rings". A series I have read probably 20 times. Anne McCaffery's "Dragon Riders of Pern" caught my attention for several read throughs as well. Anything along those lines is great, while I also enjoy Andre Norton stories too. Hands down though, Epic Fantasy stories really get me going.

Re:What is your favorite genre to read? - 07/09/2006I do LOVE fantasy novels... I love the uniqueness of it, and how much is left to the imagination because in most cases, the setting doesn't exist! You're left to create an image for yourself based on what the author described.
I also love mainstream fiction, like Diary of Bridget Jones and Confessions of a Shopaholic. These types of stories are very casual and has a great sense of humor! It's easy, light reading. It's the kind of book you want to read at work, behind you boss' back.

What is your favorite genre to read? - 07/08/2006I'm sure that most people read a variety of books, but what is your favorite genre?
If I'm reading for relaxation, I prefer a well written science fiction fantasy book. The type with swords, sorcery, maybe a dragon or two . . Well, ok, dragons are optional. Doesn't have to be set in medieval times. Hard core science fiction (space ships and high-tech stuff) I leave to my son's reading pleasure although I admit that I still pick one up every now and then.
Most romances completely turn me off. Many of the so-called paranormal romances seem to be morphing into medium-soft porn with a thin storyline thrown in as an afterthought.
