Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 10/26/2008 Nope, nary a thing. But then again, I wouldn't.

Robert, hope you're back up and at it soon. I guess you don't mind if I slip behind the bar and brew myself some fresh coffee?

ANYWAY.....

I just read a short novel... well, novella, I guess is the technical term... by Truman Capote called The Grass Harp. Did y'all know that man could really really write? Not meaning to sound completely obtuse, but the only thing I'd read of his before was In Cold Blood. Turns out, before that he wrote very different sorts of stuff, brilliant stuff that makes you say now this here is some might fine writing.

I had been craving a story like the one I just read. I just didn't know how much I'd been craving it until I started reading it. It was not at all what I expected... in a good way. I'm interested if anyone else has read it, or read anything by Capote besides In Cold Blood.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 10/12/2008 She shows, she leaves again.

Just when I'd given up even checking the site, our fearless leader shows up after over a year MIA. Then she's gone again.

Anyone heard from here this time?

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 07/09/2008 It's probably much too late for that. Rumours of my untimely death have been greatly exaggerated, despite how on some days I may wish they hadn't been. Once I get re-synchronized with the world, I'll be around a bit more. In the meantime, hello all.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/30/2008 Hadn't even noticed. Leave it to you, of course. It's interesting how that sort of resonates, though...

SOOOOO..... since it's chat-about-anything hour, I'll just mention I read Charles Frazier's most recent, Thirteen Moons, and though it was not the worst book I've read, I'm wishing I'd spent that time reading something else. It was my book group's choice for this month, so I felt obligated.

I just started a new book called Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. I'm only a few chapters in and already three people have died -- two of them violently. Not usually my genre but it's supposed to be a good book.

If anyone here has read either and wants to chime in a few cents' worth, by all means..........

(no spoilers, though, please)

By the way, IS there anyone else here? Someone needs to tell the Bard to come empty his tip jar before antryg gets any big ideas.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/28/2008 For your edification and enjoyment... the Word of the Day at Dictionary.com from two days ago (much too good and, somehow, relevant to leave behind):

Cockaigne kah-KAYN, noun:
An imaginary land of ease and luxury.

Everyone was seeking renewal, a golden century, a Cockaigne of the spirit.
-- Umberto Eco, Foucault's Pendulum

Cockaigne comes from Middle English cokaygne, from Middle French (pais de) cocaigne "(land of) plenty," ultimately adapted or derived from a word meaning "cake."

mmmmmmm.... cake.......

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/26/2008 At least you decided to use your power for good and not evil.

Hey, that's something. [pat on the back]

BAAARRRRISTA? Apparently the Bard has left the building. I'll just get it me-self. Any vodka back there?

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/26/2008 The only power I have is THE POWER TO DELETE THE ENTIRE FORUM! But, as Uncle Ben always said "with awesome power comes awesome responsibility". *mutter* Stupid Uncle Ben, always making me be responsible. Pick up your toys! Play nice! Don't set the forum on fire. I never have any fun. *end mutter*

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/26/2008 antryg, did I not give you the power to approve images? I thought I handed that torch to you long ago. I apologize to all who were faceless during hibernation.

Re:The Bard's Not Here Coffee Shop, New for 2008 - 06/26/2008 It's been long for many years... actually got sick of it back in April and hacked about 5 inches off on an unfortunate whim. Kids, don't try this at home.

At least it grows back fast.

Iced coffee, please, barista. Baby, it's hot outside.
