Myself, I do not beleive poetry is getting sad. I just beleive that it is easier to share the good times more openly. If you are having a great life, you tend to want to share that information with others. Whereas if you are struggling with life on life's terms and have no one you can truely trust with this information ,poetry seems to be the easiest way, if not the most accepted means of communicating this. Face it, we all have issues that have at one point or another, alienated us ,even from ourselves. Putting them in print is a passive way of saying, "DOES ANYONE HEAR ME?" and "AM I ALONE IN THIS?"
