Re:paid blogging..ok? - 10/17/2006
Look at what has happened at sites like YouTube and MySpace. Advertisers and Marketers have hit upon the internet as the next big thing for them. The best, from their viewpoint is that it is really cheap and you can very accurately guage your viewers. What makes it insidious is that most of it is done so the viewer won't realize they are viewing a paid commercial.
Think about it. Once the line becomes adequately blurred, nobody will know what is true and heartfelt and that which is cyncial manipulation. "A is great!" Really? Who paid you to say so? "B is the devil!" Are you truly disgruntled or are you secretly backing C?
As an example, all you have to do is look to the story about the freelance writer who traveled the country in an RV (paid for by Walmart), parked at Walmarts and interviewed Walmart employees (all of whom stated that working for Walmart is better than Heaven) and posted their blog on a website (paid for by Walmart). Did I forget to mention that their itenerary was planned by Walmart and all of their expenses were paid by Walmart and she was paid by Walmart for her stories? Funny that, because she forgot to mention any of this on her blog.
PEOPLE WHO ARE PAID TO BLOG NEED TO TELL THE WORLD ON THEIR WEBSITE UP FRONT THAT THEY ARE SHILLING, EVEN IF THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY
