Vulgarity - 10/01/2006
Ok, this is my rant. You can kick back in a reply if you like, but I'm going to rant.
One thing that I have found, not on this forum, to be an increasingly annoying problem is the amount of vulgarity and crudeness in poetry. I will stand by anyone who may disagree with my opinion for the right to stand up for what they believe. But, I have issue with poets who are becoming more and more of the opinion that a poem has no effect without the vulgar language.
I can see in some places where an expletive may add to the picture or image that someone is portraying in a piece. For instance, in describing a street gang mantality and the language they use. Where I have a problem is that so many feel that strong emotions can not be conveyed without obscenities. If anyone doubts the strong feelings I have expressed in this rant because of the lack of vulgarity, then I guess I've proved the point of the oppossing opinion.
As I said, I support anyones right to stand for what they believe, but I reserve the right to disagree and also to be heard.
And that is my rant.
